ALLENSTOWN-Roland W. Noel, 82, of Ferry Street, died Tuesday at Concord Hospital after a long illness. He was born in St. Armaugh, Canada, the son of Treffle and Marie (Noel) Noel. He lived in Allenstown most of his life. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he served with the 197th Field Artillery in New Guinea and the Philippines and was a recipient of the Purple Heart for wounds received in the Asiatic-Pacific theater. He was a member and past commander of the John J. Magurie American Legion Post No. 28 and a member of the VFW post No. 2860, both of Suncook. He coached the Manchester Beavers Hockey Team in the 1960s, which later became the Tam O’Shanters of the Granite State Hockey League. He also coached the American Legion Post No. 28 baseball team. He worked for the maintenance department at the federal building in Concord, retiring in 1981. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Lorraine Noel of Allenstown; a son, Donald Noel of Pembroke; two daughters, Claudette Bellerose of Pembroke and Louise Hislop of Alexandria; five grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Calling hours will not be held. A Memorial Mass will be held tomorrow at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church. The Rev. Wilfred Deschamps will officiate. Urn burial will follow at St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Allenstown. Memorial donations may be made to St. John the Baptist Old Cemetery Trust Fund, c/o Gabriel Daneault, 34 Al’s Ave., Allenstown 03275. Petit Funeral Home, Pembroke, is in charge of arrangements.
